Having been many times to Growing Power in Milwaukee, and having been a disciple of Will Allen for almost two years, I can attest to the truth of what this two part article and video says: You can produce food in massive amounts in a very limited amount of space. It takes some work, but is not hard to do. All the hard stuff has been worked out by Will Allen and Growing Power. All you have to do is learn what they do and do it yourself. The results will be spectacular and you will be doing the best thing to save your life and health and to become a true saviour to those communities that are trying to survive in the midst of a food desert. You can do this!

"If you do just one thing -- make one conscious choice -- that can change the world, go organic.... No other single choice you can make to improve the health of your family and the planet will have greater positive repercussions for our future."
That's a bold statement. Is eating organic more important than avoiding meat, stopping coal plants, biking instead of driving or donating to worthy causes?
Yes, declares Maria Rodale, the CEO of the Rodale Inc. publishing empire (Mens Health, Prevention, Runners World) and author of the aptly named Organic Manifesto: How Organic Food Can Heal Our Planet, Feed the World and Keep Us Safe(Rodale Books), from which the quote is drawn.
"There's so many benefits that come from that one choice," Maria explains. "You've removed a bajillion pounds of dangerous, synthetic, disease-causing environment-destroying chemicals from the soil, the water our bodies. We would all immediately be healthier. Our children would be healthier."
Farmers and their families and farm workers would be better off, too, she goes on: "And our kids would be smarter. There are actually studies that show that a lot of these chemicals do reduce intelligence."
I arranged a phone interview with Maria after meeting her last spring during Cooking for Solutions, a great conference and food fest on sustainable agriculture and fishing organized by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I'd read her book and wanted to delve deeper into the issues surrounding organics. Tomorrow, I'll offer a dissenting view from Steve Savage, an agricultural consultant who is dubious about many of Maria's claims.
Maria, who is 49, is the scion of America's first family of organics. Her grandfather, J.I. Rodale, started Organic Farming and Gardening magazine, which is now known as Organic Gardening, in 1942. He put his ideas into practice on a 60-acre farm near Emmaus, Pa. She was raised nearby. "I grew, I weeded, I picked, I cooked," she said. "I was very aware that we were a little different from everyone else, at least once I started going to school." The family farm became a tourist destination. "For many people, it was like a pilgrimage," she remembers. Those were the days when organic food could be purchased only in health or natural food stores.
Today, while the acreage farmed organically remains small -- less than 1 percent of U.S. farmland -- organics are a big business. U.S. sales of organic food and beverages have grown from $1 billion in 1990 to $26.7 billion in 2010, according to the Organic Trade Association. Organic fruits and vegetables represent more than 10 percent of all sales of fruits and vegetable, the group says.
book coverConventional foods are worse for us than we realize, Maria argues. The government responds to problems after the fact and is overly influenced by big agricultural firms, which also shape university research. In her book, she writes:
There is enough evidence to know now that synthetic chemicals are destroying our health and our ability to reproduce and, thus, our ability to survive as a species. Agricultural chemicals have statistically and significantly been implicated in causing all sorts of cancers, behavioral problems, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism, Parkinson's disease, reduced intelligence, infertility, miscarriage, diabetes, infant deformities and low birth weight.
No specific studies are cited in the book, so I asked Maria for a couple of references. She sent me a link toBeyond Pesticides, website, where a blog with headlines like Low Doses of Pesticides Put Honey Bees at Risk. Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York provides a fact-sheet about pesticides here which says, among other things, that
Pesticides have been shown to cause a wide range of adverse effects on human health including acute and chronic injury to the nervous system, lung damage, injury to the reproductive organs, dysfunction of the immune and endocrine systems, birth defects, and cancer; these effects can manifest as acutely toxic effects, delayed effects, or chronic effects.
For its part, the agricultural industry says pesticide residues on food are harmless and regulated by the government.

Typically, 3-D printers are discussed in light of the efficiencies they bring to industrial design and fabrication. They will soon help chefs create foods that can’t be made by hand if Cornell Creative Machines Lab, or their peers in the industry, can make them accessible.
The newest 3-D food printer, now being honed at CCML, can produce: tiny space shuttle-shaped scallop nuggets (image above); and cakes or cookies that, when you slice into them, reveal a special message buried within, like a wedding date, initials (image below) or a corporate logo. They can also make a solid hamburger patty, with liquid layers of ketchup and mustard, or a hamburger substitute that’s made from vegan or raw foods.

The CCML food printers require edible inks and electronic blueprints called FabApps. This machine prints food using multiple cartridges, going line by line until the desired shape is extruded. "The electronic blueprint specifies exactly which materials go where — it is essentially a blueprint of the food item," says Hod Lipson, head of the lab.
Other food printers, including those in prototype and design phases at MIT, could scan QR-code recipes.
With most 3-D food printing concepts today, the inks are the foods themselves in fluid form — think molten chocolate, cheese or cookie dough. Foods that can’t be readily extruded from a syringe such as meats and vegetables are ground and mixed with other liquids to create novel food inks.
While printing pyramids of pastry or hemispheres of ham sounds whimsical, food printing is about more than decorative presentation. It’s a way to create new flavors and forms of food by varying its chemical properties. "It’s a huge 'design space,' and the combination of tastes and textures, geometries and colors that can be achieved is enormous,” says Lipson.
The head of the project at CCML, Jeffrey Ian Lipton, has developed a new printing technique that allows the printer to change the texture of the food being printed. Called stochastic printing, or squiggle printing, the food buckles and coils as it comes out of the syringe instead of falling in a straight line. This results in very porous structures whose absorbent quality can be completely controlled.
Using corn masa dough, the lab team along with Chef David Arnold printed a new form of corn chip in the shape of a flower that could be deep fried evenly. "If it were solid you would burn the outside before the inside was fried," says Lipton. "By making it porous we can deep fry the whole thing at the same time. Therefore we can make much larger objects to deep fry."

Controlling texture finely means being able to change the texture of a single food material and have it be different in different parts of the shape. A tortilla could be made to go from crispy and dense on the edges to light and airy on the inside. "We can make an object softer, or stringy or absorbent," says Lipton. "You can get things to more evenly steam or deep fry, or hold more juices inside."
The Cornell group on the Fab@Home project has teamed up with theFrench Culinary Institute to create new foods and different forms of existing foods with novel materials. Lipton believes that stochastic printing, leveraged with food printing, will enable chefs to innovate and create new things that have never existed before faster, essentially allowing rapid prototyping of food.
"Foods that aren’t considered ‘food’ will become food in the future," says Homaro Cantu, executive chef at the Moto Restaurant in Chicago. He is exploring making foods look and taste like something they're not. "The fact is Americans will never give up their cheeseburgers and French fries, so we need to replace them with healthy raw ingredients. The home cook may never have the skill set to actually produce (the healthiest) foods — this is where food printing or what I call food transmogrification can step in and fill the void."
CCML's Lipton is working on finding more food materials whose properties can be altered to make them more delicious. The team’s efforts have caught the attention of many companies.
Essential Dynamics, a tech startup in New York, plans to bring out a commercial version of the 3-D food printer that will retail for $1,000 initially. Its founder, Jamil Yosefzai, believes that the desire to customize foods will make 3-D food printers an essential part of everyone’s kitchen in due course. “Customization of foods has played an integral role in our 250,000-year history,” says Yosefzai. "As time passes, 3-D food printing we will go from novelty … to utility … to indispensability."
CCML's Lipton added: "People like to play with food. They like to express themselves in food. This allows them to express themselves in not just what the food is made of, but what its shaped like. We can make health food more fun, interesting and appealing with this technology. What kid wouldn't eat a space shuttle, even one made of peas?"

The blanket claim that vaccines don't work or are dangerous is ludicrous. Farmers would quickly stop vaccinating if this were true.

Growing up on a farm, I have seen several livestock epidemics stopped cold thanks to the use of vaccines. Good hygiene and vaccines have greatly increased our lifespans along with that of our animal companions. 

Louis Pasteur discovered that vaccinating chickens with weakened chicken cholera bacteria induced permanent immunity. The difference in the survival rate between the vaccinated and unvaccinated chickens was remarkable. From this discovery he developed successful vaccines for anthrax and rabies.

However,  the claim that all vaccines are useful is equally ludicrous.

In order to get a communicable disease, two factors must be present. The emotional conflict specific to the illness and the presence of the microorganism.

Masha and Dasha, a pair of Siamese twins joined at the hips share the same blood supply, yet one or the other twin girl gets a cold, a flu or a childhood disease while the other remains healthy. Why?

There is more to getting sick than just catching a bug. These two girls shared the same blood, but not the same emotional conflicts.

For example, the main emotional conflicts behind polio are fear of being stuck, imprisoned, and forced to work beyond one's abilities. The great polio epidemics coincide with the industrial age and died out with the end of child labor. In nations where child labor is still used, polio still presents a problem.

TB epidemics coincide with wars and natural disasters. Plague outbreaks coincide with total economic breakdowns. Flu season coincides with the holidays and families getting together.

Cervical cancer is a healing phase cancer. That means that after the conflict is resolved, the "cancerous" growth occurs. While the conflict is active, painless necrosis of the cervix is occurring. It becomes like microscopic Swiss Cheese.

The longer the conflict, the greater the necrosis. The "cancerous" growth is the repair of the necrosis.

When the necrosis has been fully repaired, the excess tissue breaks down. Bleeding, puss, fever and discomfort results. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is instrumental in it's breakdown and healing, it is not the cause of cancer anymore than apples cause orchards to appear.

The main conflicts that cause cervical cancer are feeling abandoned by a lover, or a fear of not being possessed by a man. The conflict is usually resolved when the lover returns, or she finds another lover. This explains the higher rate of cervical cancer in women married the 2nd time.

Thus Gardasil is worse than useless. It will not stop a single case of cervical cancer. It will stop HPV, but we don't know the dangers of a new virulent strain appearing.

Dr. Diane Harper, the lead creator of Gardasil says that 90% of HPV infections resolve themselves in two years. She also states that Gardasil would do little to prevent cancer.


There seems to be a link with vaccinations and the alarming growth of autism, diabetes and other serious conditions.

Flu, polio, Gardasil, pneumonia and other vaccinations have been tied to the potentially deadly nerve disease- Guillain-Barre Syndrome. (GBS) The conflict behind GBS is that a person strongly feels his life is not unfolding as he hoped. He feels stuck and unable to change; the future is unchangeable.

It is not what is in the syringe (baring any contamination, deliberate or not.) that causes these conditions. We have learned that it is the stress or fear of the needle that trigger these conditions. Many of us have seen people that get nauseous, dizzy or even faint just from the sight of a needle.

Needle shock should not be underestimated. The myriad of vaccine studies all fail to take this into account.
Within hours of being vaccinated with Gardasil,  a nine-year-old girl was hospitalized diabetic shock. She was resisting with disgust the thought of a future promiscuous spouse, fear of the needle and had just a fight with her parents over refusing to receive the vaccination.

the subconscious mind of a child and even some adults, the needle can represent a knife, bayonet or even a rape, triggering diabetes, autism and other conditions.

The increasing rate of autism is in direct proportion to the breakdown of the family. The key to autism is in the family tree. We have learned it is caused by the breakdown of communication between the generations.

A four-year-old girl seemingly became autistic from a vaccination. 4 years later I questioned both parents separately, the father after much questioning finally admitted to raping another woman while his own wife was pregnant. Confessing this to his daughter she was set free and greatly improved.

Personally, I do not take vaccinations but I'm not against them when they are needed. I believe we are over vaccinated and big pharm is profiteering off of us.

But I feel that living lives free from judgment, self criticism, covetousness, promiscuity or arguing with reality are among the true keys to health and happiness.

In 1988, Dietrich used MRI to show that developmentally delayed children had alterations in their
myelin. Coulter described that central nervous system damage can be exhibited as abnormal behavior of the child. In 1935, Thomas Rivers, experimental allergic encephalitis (EAE) can be the result of a viral or bacterial infection of the nervous system. "The fact of the matter is that it is a matter of record that it was known that vaccination produced encephalitis since 1926." The authors stated, "In regions in which there is no organized vaccination of the population, general paralysis is rare. ... It is impossible to deny a connection between vaccinations and the encephalitis (brain damage) which follows it." Vaccines have been linked to seizures, convulsions and epilepsy. Vaccines: The Weird, The Wild and The Hilarious Citations: Sometimes there are articles published about the strangest facts related to vaccines that defies our imagination and ability to understand them. They were written seriously by well-meaning scientific persons, but their titles can be seen differently. Some are funny, some are sad and some are purely scientific folly.
